Covid and harvest - drawing closer to God

Things have been tough. My creative brain is rusty. It’s been a scary couple of weeks. Thee Farmer and I tested positive for COVID-19 on the 9th. The next day we went to the hospital for outpatient administration of IV monoclonal antibodies to help us fight the virus. That night in bed, I rolled over and asked him, “Are we dying?” and I meant it.

We’ve missed most of harvest. We are so grateful to have family that was able to bring our crop in without John’s help. He did haul corn stalk bales Saturday but paid for it yesterday. My Big Bear is so weak.

But through it all, my eyes have been on Jesus. I continued to read the Word every morning. Through feverish eyes, I searched for words of comfort and healing in the Psalms. I circled around verses like:

Psalm 6:2-4

"Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint; heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony. My soul is in deep anguish. How long, Lord, how long? Turn, Lord, and deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love."

Psalm 107:19-20

"Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them."

And this:

Isaiah 38: 16-17

"You restored me to health and let me live. Surely it was for my benefit that I suffered such anguish. In your love you kept me from the pit of destruction; you have put all my sins behind your back."

God is always near. He hears our cries. A good friend lost her daddy yesterday to COVID, and I don’t know why God did not answer the prayers of those who prayed for him. But I do know that God will bring comfort and healing to his family and that their faith will see them through.

That’s the thing about faith. We have to trust God in all things. Not just when He answers our prayers the way we want Him to. We have to trust Him to see us through. This is not some cliche. It’s absolute truth. The closer we draw to Him - James 4:8a says, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” Get to know God and His ways and you will learn that He is always near, even in the middle of sickness, and yes, death.

Today, choose a way to experience drawing closer to God.

  • Journal a prayer.

  • Read a few Psalms.

  • Go for a walk and wonder at His creation.

  • Send a card to a sick friend.

  • Send a card to someone who has recently lost a loved one. Let them know that you are still thinking about them.

  • Take a break from the busy-ness of life and talk to Him.

There are so many unique and wonderful ways to experience God. Trust Him in the hard times. Praise Him all of the time. Know that you are always on His mind and that He loves you.

Praying you to find Him today,

Carolyn
