Start here

Maybe you’ve just visited a new church for the first time. Maybe a friend invited you to her small group. Maybe you’re sitting at Starbucks and you Googled “How to Read The Bible”. You’ve come to the right place.

I’m Carolyn White, and I love Jesus. The Bible is God’s story. And it can be confusing. If you were to start reading in the book of Leviticus you would call me crazy and think there was no way you were going to read this.

The Bible is One Story comprised of 66 books. These books are broken up into two parts, or testaments, the Old and the New.

The Old Testament is the story from Creation to the Prophets. God shows His great love for His people Israel. He gives them instructions and rules, not to fence them in, but to establish boundaries to keep them safe and pure.

The New Testament continues The Story. Here, we meet Jesus. We learn that He is the Son of God. More than a baby in a manger, He is our King. The book of John is a great place to start, and I recommend the New Living Translation which you can access for free here.

Say a simple prayer: “God, show me what You have to say. I don’t know what I’m doing, but I would like to learn. Thank you for Your Word. Amen.”

And then read the first chapter. Go slow. Highlight or write down anything that stands out. Note any questions you may have.

Email me carolynwhite.me@gmail.com and let me know how you’re doing and I will send you a link to our Bible study of John: Word by Word.

Blessings,

Carolyn
